Sonnet
The Sea is like
an old nature poet
who dies of a
heart attack in a
public latrine.
His ghost still
haunts the urinals.
At night he can
be heard walking
around barefooted
in the dark.
Somebody stole
his shoes.
-Richard Brautigan
this is a lovely poem with great imagery. but i keep trying to imagine why this nature poet has such loud feet -- most people's barely make a sound when they are padding around barefoot, that's why we say "padding". but then i remember that this nature poet also happens to be the sea. :)
ReplyDeleteis that one of your photos?
ReplyDeleteyeah it is. It was taken on cannon beach in oregon last september. it is a lovely place. i wouldn't think shod feet to be quieter than bare feet so i just don't know!
